Ruskin Bond, born in 1934, is an Indian author of British descent. Born in Britain, he grew up in Gujarat and Shimla and was raised by his grandmother after the age of ten. After completing high school, he relocated to England to live with his aunt and he penned his first novel, The Room On The Roof, in 1957. He has also authored Vagrants in The Valley, The Panther's Moon, The Kashmiri Storyteller and Once Upon A Monsoon Time, to name a few. He was awarded Padma Shri in 1999 and Padma Bhushan in 2014 and he currently resides in Landour, near Mussoorie.
