About the Author
Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) was an eighteenth century English novelist whose works critiqued, interpreted and commented upon the English landed gentry of the time. Her novels are characterized by sharp wit and perceptive portrayals of ordinary people. She has written six novels of which the most popular is Pride and Prejudice. All of Austen’s novels were published anonymously, while Northanger Abbey and Persuasion were published posthumously in 1818.
