About the Author

Prashant K. Trivedi, an Associate Professor at the Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow, received his PhD in sociology from the University of Lucknow. His research interests include political economy of land reforms, rural studies and issues relating to Dalits, Muslims and women with a special focus on Uttar Pradesh, India. He has published articles on a variety of subjects including gender and law, caste and violence, and inequality in development in various journals including Economic & Political Weekly, Journal of Indian School of Political Economy and Social Change. His has co-authored Backward and Dalit Muslims: Education, Employment and Poverty and Weapon of the Oppressed: An Inventory of People’s Rights in India and edited The Globalisation Turbulence: Emerging Tensions in Indian Society. Before joining the Giri Institute, he was a faculty at the Council for Social Development (CSD), New Delhi. During this period, he was the book review editor of CSD’s peer-reviewed journal Social Change published by SAGE.
